Adobe Firefly Downloads Plummet 50% Following Google Gemini’s AI Image Tool Launch
Adobe's Firefly app has seen a dramatic 50% drop in downloads since Google introduced its Gemini 2.5 Flash model, dubbed Nano Banana, in late August. Data from Appfigures reveals a striking inverse correlation: while Gemini downloads surged by 331% by early October, Firefly's installations collapsed by 68% over the same period.
The competitive shift was immediate. Within a week of Nano Banana's August 26 release, Firefly's download volume halved. By contrast, Gemini added 6.1 million weekly downloads compared to its launch week, while Firefly lost 2 million. The trend underscores the fierce battle for dominance in generative AI tools, where first-mover advantage and rapid innovation cycles dictate market share.
